What is the Telmap User Group?
The Telmap User Group is a group of beta testers for Telmap's mobile navigation products. As a member of the User Group you will receive Telmap software for free and will be able to navigate everywhere we have geographic coverage including Europe, North America and more. Feedback can be returned at any time using our feedback form, and every so often we will conduct an online or phone survey asking you to answer some specific questions about the product. You should know that you must maintain your own data package, and that we may keep GPS logs of your navigations.

Use the link received, or simply enter www.telmapbeta.com in your mobile browser to download and install Telmap5 for your device.
What is the activation code?
You receive an activation code by email after you successfully register to the Telmap User Group.
First time you run Telmap5 you will be required to enter this code to gain access to all the functionality available.
How much data does Telmap5 use?
It depends how often you use the application. Typically a route download is about 100 – 200 KB with monthly usage reaching a few MB of data traffic. Note that when traveling abroad, roaming data charges may apply.
Am I connected to the internet at all times when using Telmap5?
Connection to the Internet is only established when you request something such as a map or a route. Once a route is downloaded Telmap5 will continue guiding you to your destination based on the data already available even if there is no network coverage. Telmap5 only needs the reconnect to the Internet (if available) to periodically update real-time information such as traffic.
What does "real-time" mean?
"Real-time" means that Telmap5 does not store any data on your mobile phone. Instead, whenever something is needed Telmap5 connects to the internet in real time, using wireless connection to download a route, a map or a set of search results. The advantages of this are that you always have access to the latest road data and places and businesses available since we regularly update our databases. Furthermore you do not need to eat up Gigabytes of data on your mobile to store map data.
How do I start navigating?
First, the GPS in your mobile phone must be able to determine your location. To allow that you must be outdoors and your mobile phone should have a clear sky view. Once your location is known, select Search from the menu and enter your search term in whichever way is intuitive to you to find your destination. Once you have selected your destination, simply select Drive or Walk. For more details on how to get started with Telmap5 please refer to the Telmap5 Quick Start Guide.
What happens if I leave the route during navigation?
Telmap5 reacts automatically to any deviation from the route and gives you the best possible instructions from where you are located. However after several deviations from the route Telmap5 will automatically recalculate a new route from your current location and inform you that it is starting navigation according to the new route.
What is traffic-aware routing and where is it available?
Where traffic information is available, Telmap5 will provide the best route possible that considers the current traffic conditions. Traffic information is available for selected roads in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Switzerland, United Kingdom, US and Canada. Even if you are already under way Telmap5 periodically checks traffic conditions and if a better route becomes available you can choose to be rerouted.
What is pedestrian routing?
Telmap5 fully supports pedestrian use. Pedestrian routes can ignore vehicle turn restrictions such as no entry signs and one-way streets and provide the best routes when you walk to your destination. Telmap also offers you a navigation experience more suitable for pedestrians with fully functional navigation maps that you can move and zoom and on which you can even search for places and businesses around you.
Can I use Telmap5 when indoors?
When indoors you can do anything that does not require an exact position. For example, you can search for a place/business around a particular location. You can view a map of a location or even do a route simulation.
Even when you are indoors, Telmap5 can determine your approximate location and display it on a map. You can also search for nearby places and businesses.
To start navigation you need to be outdoors so that the GPS on your device can determine your precise location.

You could not complete application download
This can happen to BlackBerry users and is related to the BlackBerry browser setting. The BlackBerry browser has a download size limitation and does not complete the Telmap5 application download. You should use your device Internet Browser or WAP browser to do the download. Note that operator charges may apply.
Solution
From your BlackBerry Home Screen select Options | Advanced options | Browser and make sure that the Default browser configuration setting is set to Internet Browser or to your device's WAP browser
You get an Internal Error
This error is rather difficult to handle since it seems to be related to corrupted installations connected specific firmware versions. We are unable to provide a hard and fast solution since generally we cannot reproduce the error in-house. Below are some suggestions you may try. Some of these were found by simple trial and error and were reported by other users experiencing the problem. In some cases the steps below involve changing firmware versions or configurations on your device. If you choose to try these steps you do so at your own risk.
Solution
- The easiest solution (not a sure solution thought) is to reinstall and install over Wifi. If that does not solve the problem the, do the following:
-
Verify application permissions are properly configured:
Go to Options | Advanced options | Applications
Click on Telmap 5
Click on the blackberry button and Edit permissions
Make sure that Connection, Interactions and User data are set to "Allow". -
Reset the firewall prompt
Go to Options | Advanced options | Applications
Click on Telmap 5
Click on the blackberry button and Edit permissions
Click on the BlackBerry button and "Reset firewall prompt". -
Make sure you have at least one of the below service books:
(To view service book entries go to: Device Main Menu | Option | Advanced Options | Service Book)
- Desktop [IPPP]
- IPPP for BIBS [IPPP] -
At this point please try to run Telmap5 again.
If it still doesn't work please reinstall Telmap5 as follows:
- Delete your current version
Go to Options | Advanced options | Applications. Scroll down to Telmap5 and select Delete from the menu.
- Reboot your device
- Reinstall Telmap5 by browsing to www.telmapbeta.com directly on your device
- Follow the on-screen instructions and make sure to "Allow" all permissions in the process. - Change your firmware version. Sometimes a specific firmware version seems to cause the problem so you either need to upgrade to the latest approved version – or you may need to downgrade to a previous version. It's impossible to know which specific firmware version will work.
-
Remove and reinstall the configuration data of your Blackberry as follows:
- Go to Options | Advanced options | Configuration data.
- Delete all the configuration data one by one where possible (some data cannot be deleted)
- Contact your mobile operator to send you back the configuration data
- Reboot your device
You can't type into the Activation Code or Search field
Some BlackBerry devices (e.g. BB 9700 – Bold2, BB 8900 Curve) allow predictive text input.
This is a known issue when predictive text is enabled.
Solution
We cannot resolve this until we have a new version release – but in the mean time the work around is to disable predictive text. From your BlackBerry Home Screen go to Options | Language and Text Input.
In the Input Language section select Show Text Input Options.
Uncheck the Predictive Input field.
Your new activation code is not valid
This can happen when you copy/paste your activation code from the email you received into the Activation code field. Sometimes, whitespace characters get pasted into the field along, so the activation code is received as invalid.
Solution
Please make sure you type in the activation code manually, using caps lock only (without spaces at the end).
You can't reuse your old activation code
There are different reasons for this
- On April 26, 2010, the Telmap User Group was upgraded to a new server environment. All activation codes issued before that date were no longer valid on the new environment. All existing users were notified and issued with a new activation code.
Solution
If you are trying to use a code that you received before April 26, 2010 then it will not work. Please just register with us again at www.telmapbeta.com and you will automatically receive a new activation code and download link.
- Each activation code issued can be reused a limited number of times (but only on one device at a time). If you have tried to use your code too many times then it is no longer valid.
Solution
You can either register with us again to receive a new activation code, or send us an email with your activation code and we will extend it for further use.
You can't change the language of Telmap5
Telmap5 supports several languages including English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Hebrew.
By default the application is download in English.
Solution
To change the application language, from the main screen select Options | Settings.
From the Settings screen you can scroll down to the International section and change the language.
You can't search in your country or state
Telmap5 allows you to do a search in any region where we have geographical coverage regardless of where you are. If your location is detected, Telmap5 will automatically update the country/state setting, however frequently you may do a search indoors where your location is unknown.
Solution
To search in any country/state, with the Search field displayed select Options | Change country to make sure the country/state is set to the location where you want to search.
You can't change the speed units to MPH
Telmap5 supports both metric and imperial units and this is configured from the Settings screen.
Solution
To change the application units, from the main screen select Options | Settings.
From the Settings screen you can change the application units under the Route preferences section.
You want to view ETA, distance to destination or other route details
Telmap5 lets each user select which details to see according to their own personal preference using Widgets. By default, no widget is selected.
Solution
You can access application widgets for the Mapping, Navigation and Pedestrian navigation screens by selecting Options | Widgets (Spacebar shortcut on BlackBerry). To view ETA and Distance to destination you can use the Route info widget.
You can't hear the navigation sound instructions
First please make sure that your device volume is high and that your device is not in "Silent" mode.
There is a known issue that Telmap5 does not issue sounds when the device is connected to some Bluetooth car kits
Solution
Disconnect your device from your Bluetooth car kit when navigating.
You are not sure whether to select BES or BIS
BES/BIS refers to how your BlackBerry device is configured depending on whether
it is administered by your company
or by your mobile operator. In the past, older versions of Telmap software required
a different download depending on
whether your device was configured for BES or BIS
Solution
If you purchased your BlackBerry directly from a mobile operator select BIS.
If you're BlackBerry is administered by your company's IT department select BES
